Summary of my comments on DDRFreak: My suggestion for this was to add the $200 evenly to each place (~$67 dollars for each place), because it entices more people from the middle of the pack to show up. All shooting for 3rd place jokes aside, some people still [unfortunately] have the mentality of "why bother even if there's an extra $200, it's all going to 1st place aka Rob or Craig". Splitting the money three ways is a really good way to get local players interested and it makes each prize pot really sizeable and within reach of the middle of the pack.

Rob brought up the point of "why should 3rd get a boost in prize money when they didn't do as well as 1st or 2nd?" The point of the added prize money, in Eddie's own words, is to get more local people interested and to boost the turnout. He's not putting it in because he feels like throwing money at whoever places. You're attracting far more NE people by boosting 3rd place and encouraging the middle of the pack to play than by adding to first and enticing only the top players to keep coming.

As much as I'd like this to stay local, if you're going to add $200 to 1st then you should post it on non-New England forums and get players from other regions interested, because only then would you get more people interested than by adding the money in a 3-way split. But that would likely end up in people coming that are interested solely in money and I'd hate for the tournie to turn into that. It would definitely get some new faces in the door though.

Edit- It's already posted on AIJ as an interest thread, might as well make it official and keep the $200 on first.

I'd go with the $200 for first place because it attracts people from different regions which makes tournaments more fun. People generally will travel for a large pot for first but not so much if it's being spread out.
